Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, “Marubeni”), through Aguas Horizonte SpA (hereinafter, “AH”), a special purpose company in which Marubeni invested jointly with Transelec Holdings Rentas Limitada, is currently implementing a desalination and water transmission project (hereinafter, the “Project”) for Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile (CODELCO). On February 21, 2024, AH won the award for “Infrastructure Deal of the Year (Americas)” at the 2023 PFI Awards ceremony held by PROJECT FINANCE INTERNATIONAL (hereinafter, “PFI”), an internationally known source of global project finance intelligence.

The PFI Awards are a prestigious set of awards with a long history in the project finance world. The Project was highly evaluated as a financing arrangement for a long-term, large-scale infrastructure project that supplies sustainable water desalinated from seawater for the production of copper, whose demand is expected to increase as global decarbonization efforts accelerate.

 

Marubeni positioned green strategy as one of the basic policies to enhance corporate value in its mid-term management strategy “GC2024.” By participating in this undertaking, Marubeni will utilize its knowledge of water businesses to contribute to the stable supply of copper, which is indispensable for the realization of a sustainable society.
