CopperMark

The Copper Mark, founded by the International Copper Association (“ICA”)*2, is a comprehensive, credible assurance framework that demonstrates the copper industry’s responsible production practices and industry contribution to the United Nations’ SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). Copper Mark partners are companies that promote the vision and goals of this framework.

All copper mines in which Marubeni participates—Minera Centinela, Minera Antucoya, and Minera Los Pelambres—have received the Copper Mark. As a partner of the Copper Mark, Marubeni will promote responsible copper production in the copper industry and spread responsibly produced copper products that have received the Copper Mark from both the investment and trading business, and then pursue the establishment of sustainable and resilient value chains.

In its Mid-Term Management Strategy GC2024, Marubeni has set aspiring to become a forerunner in green business by expanding green business and creating new green business as one of its key policies. Going forward, Marubeni will focus on the continuous improvement of responsible copper production in the copper industry and aims to strengthen the company’s commitment to the SDGs.

*1 Copper Mark
The Copper Mark was founded by the ICA, and the Copper Mark company was established as an independent entity in 2019. In order to be identified as a contributor to SDG 12 and receive the Copper Mark, copper producers are assessed against a set of 32 responsible production criteria.

*2 International Copper Association
The ICA (headquartered in Washington, D.C.) leads the world’s copper industry on issues critical to securing copper’s future growth and achieving the SDGs. ICA members represent many of the world’s largest copper producers and mid-stream smelters and refiners.
