Collaboration on Feed Additives for Livestock Using CO₂:
Memorandum of Understanding with Utilization of Carbon Dioxide Institute Co., Ltd.
Dec. 23, 2022
Marubeni Corporation
Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, “Marubeni”) and Utilization of Carbon Dioxide Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “UCDI”), a biotech venture company from Tokyo University, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) for a collaboration on feed additives aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the livestock industry.
UCDI is conducting research and development to produce various resources such as protein resources, biofuels, and chemicals from CO₂ with a unique hydrogen bacterium (UCDI®). UCDI® captures CO₂ using hydrogen as an energy source and multiplies it at a high speed. UCDI contributes to solving food problems and the realization of a decarbonized society to produce resources using special hydrogen bacteria that use CO₂ as a nutrient source, which is different from conventional fermentation technology that uses biomass as a nutrient source.
Marubeni and UCDI will advance considerations regarding new technology related to the livestock industry, including the development, OEM, and sales of feed additives and their raw materials.
Marubeni set out a green strategy in its mid-term management strategy “GC2024” (published in February 2022) and is aiming to become a forerunner of green business by strengthening its existing green businesses and promoting the “greening” of all its business. Through this collaboration, Marubeni will reduce the environmental impact generated by the livestock industry and will continue to contribute to the realization of a recycling-oriented society.
