Marubeni Corporation
Marubeni, in collaboration with Taisei Corporation, won “The 64th BCS Prize” at the Japan Federation of Construction Contractors (JFCC) Awards 2023, sponsored by the Japan Federation of Construction Contractors, for the new Marubeni Building’s completion in February 2021 and the Head Office’s relocation in May 2021.
The BCS Prize has been awarded to superior buildings in Japan annually to encourage the creation of excellent building assets in the country and to contribute to the development of culture and global environmental protection. Established in 1960, this esteemed award has a rich history, with past recipients including significant projects such as “The Nihon T.V. Tower (Tokyo Tower)” in 1960, “The Preservation and Restoration Work on the Tokyo Station Marunouchi Building” in 2014 and “Japan National Stadium” in 2022.
The Marubeni Building is a testament to the collaborative efforts of a task force comprising Marubeni employees and Taisei Corporation, the designer and constructor, who worked together to build a new Head Office building that embodies the concept of diverse “connections.” The building was awarded The BCS Prize in recognition of its high-level integration of user needs with technical and design solutions.
Overview of the Marubeni Building
The Marubeni Building was constructed on the site of the former Marubeni Tokyo Head Office. This state-of-the-art facility comprises 22 floors above ground and two basement levels, with a total floor area of approximately 80,100 square meters. The office space is designed based on the concept of ABW (Activity Based Working) and capitalizes on the majestic views of the Imperial Palace, creating a serene and vibrant workspace that harmoniously blends with the surrounding landscape.
