Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, "Marubeni") is pleased to announce the establishment of a new wholly-owned subsidiary, Marubeni Institute, effective August 1, 2024.

In an increasingly divided world with an increasingly complex international state of affairs, rising geopolitical risks, countries around the world striving to strengthen their own economies and economic security, and the ascent of global social issues, it is becoming ever more essential for the Marubeni Group to correctly identify both the changes and signs of change in the business environment and respond quickly to them.

To address these ever-changing circumstances, a new company, Marubeni Institute, will be established as a think tank for the Marubeni Group to strengthen the intelligence function through information gathering and analysis. Until now, the role of Marubeni's think-tank has been performed by the Marubeni Research Institute and Global Planning & Coordination Department*, both of which are internal organizations of the head office. However, it has been decided to spin off the Marubeni Research Institute from the head office organization in order to expand and further advance their activities to entail more sophisticated information gathering, in-depth analysis, and accurate advice and recommendations.

The new company will inherit and strengthen the framework, characteristics, and culture of the group of experts covering a wide range of fields and regions related to the "economy" and “industry” the Marubeni Research Institute has cultivated over the years as a specialized research institute unique to Marubeni. The new company will provide intelligence and advisory services internally and externally, while, at the same time, enhancing the intellectual brand value of the Marubeni Group with the aim of making intelligence and knowledge-based contributions to society.

*The Marubeni Research Institute was a separate unit until March 2024, but was integrated into the Global Planning & Coordination Department from April 2024.
