Jun. 12, 2024
Marubeni Corporation
Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, “Marubeni”) has acquired 20% of the shares of Amata City Halong JSC (hereinafter, “ACHL”), which develops and operates the Amata City Ha Long Industrial Park in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (hereinafter, “Vietnam”), from Amata VN Public Company Limited (hereinafter, “Amata VN”), thereby participating in undertakings for the development and operation of industrial parks in Vietnam (hereinafter, the “Project”).
Amata VN is a subsidiary of Amata Corporation Public Company Limited (hereinafter, “Amata”), a leading developer of industrial parks in Thailand that is responsible for the development and operation of numerous industrial parks in Southeast Asia.
In the context of the increasing importance of the global production base strategy of the manufacturing sector against a backdrop of international geopolitical instability, Vietnam is highly regarded for its economic stability and high growth rate, abundant labor force, and rising income levels, leading to an expanding middle-income population tier—which in turn is driving an increase in manufacturing investment. The Amata Ha Long Industrial Park, located in Quang Ninh Province in northern Vietnam, is particularly attractive to the manufacturing sector in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Europe, including the electronics and electrical equipment, automotive (including EVs), and machinery industries due to the following advantages it affords:
・Easy access to East Asian countries
Quang Ninh Province is connected to neighboring China by a highway, and is close to the port city of Hai Phong, making it geographically convenient for the import of raw materials and intermediate goods as well as the export of finished products to East Asian countries.
・A transportation infrastructure that enables access to domestic and international markets
The region in which the industrial park is located is well-served by a transportation infrastructure, including highways directly connecting to the capital city of Hanoi, Lach Huyen Port (the first deep-water port in northern Vietnam), and Haiphong International Airport, providing access by land, sea, and air.
・Tax benefits from special economic zone designation
Companies in the industrial park benefit from favorable corporate tax incentives, enjoying the highest level of tax advantages in Vietnam due to the park’s location in the special economic zone.
Marubeni has been involved in the development and operation of industrial parks in Asia since the 1980s, with a track record of developing and operating a total area of approximately 2,500 hectares across five countries in the region. In the Amata Ha Long Industrial Park, Marubeni concluded a sales agency agreement with ACHL in April 2021 and has been undertaking initiatives to attract companies to the park*. As part of the Project, Marubeni will combine its over 30 years of industrial park business experience in working to reduce environmental impacts and engage in digitization initiatives, leveraging Amata’s expertise in industrial park development and operation in Vietnam to provide services that enable tenant companies to conduct efficient and environmentally friendly production activities. Additionally, the Project aims to contribute to job creation in the region surrounding the Amata Ha Long Industrial Park and economic development in Vietnam .
Marubeni will continue to address social issues such as energy, environment, and safety through technology by developing and operating industrial parks towards the aim of establishing a high-quality “next-generation industrial infrastructure" that takes into consideration livelihoods and lifestyles, contributions to technology transfer, human resource development, and the creation of industrial and employment foundations in the countries in which the company is active.
