Commencement of an EV Battery Sharing Demonstration Experiment in the Logistics Field Toward a Decarbonized Society
Sep. 30, 2022
Marubeni Corporation
Marubeni is currently working with FOMM Corporation (hereinafter, “FOMM”) on EV battery sharing* in the logistics field and will start a demonstration experiment (the “Demonstration”) on October 3, 2022, in Yokohama City and Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
The Demonstration was adopted by the Ministry of the Environment’s “the Sector Coupling Demonstration Project to integrate the Development of Electric Vehicles (EVs) with Replaceable Batteries and the Utilization of Renewable Energy.” Sohwakai Corporation (hereinafter, “Sohwakai”) has been conducting a light cargo delivery business using the “Battery Replaceable Conversion EV” (hereinafter, “CEV”) developed by FOMM. We will test introduce CEV vehicles in actual delivery operations and verify the model of operations by replacing (swapping) batteries.
By solving the battery charging time issue that has been a barrier to the introduction of EVs in the last mile delivery industry and by using renewable energy sources in the future, we aim to improve the amount of renewable energy used in Japan.
Through this Demonstration, Marubeni will promote initiatives for the commercialization of battery sharing in the logistics field and aim to contribute to a decarbonized society.
