Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, “Marubeni”) has formed a capital and business alliance with Folofly Inc. (hereinafter, “Folofly”), which plans, designs, develops, and sells commercial EVs. Marubeni Automotive Corporation (hereinafter, “M-Auto”), a 100% subsidiary of Marubeni, will support sales and the after-sales service of Folofly EVs as a sales representative.

Folofly has developed a commercial EV specialized for last-mile delivery*1 and started sales in Japan in 2022. The company has started delivering vehicles to customers, mainly major logistics companies, and will develop commercial EVs in a wide range of segments, from light commercial vans to large commercial vehicles, based on customer needs. In addition to commercial EVs, Folofly is also aiming to develop a charging infrastructure, which is essential for the spread of EVs, as well as a battery-swapping infrastructure.

Since Folofly started selling commercial EVs in 2022, M-Auto has supported the introduction of Folofly EVs to domestic fleet users, providing charging infrastructures and setting up after-sales service networks. Under the strategic alliance, M-Auto will reinforce Folofly EV sales by providing related products such as  advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), EV chargers, and aftermarket parts handled by M-Auto. 

Marubeni aims to develop and provide fleet management services*2 for commercial EVs, and contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society by supporting the spread of EVs.

*1 The delivery section from the delivery base to the final delivery destination.
*2 This service provides all actions to organize and coordinate EV procurement, maintenance, repair, and disposal, including a financing and leasing service for vehicles. Furthermore, monitoring fleet activities makes it possible to continuously improve efficiencies and reduce costs, as well as make decisions about proper asset management, dispatch and routing, and vehicle acquisition and disposal.
