On June 8, 2022, Shuqaiq Three Company for Water, a water supply company established and owned by Marubeni Corporation (“Marubeni”) for the Shuqaiq 3 Independent Water Project, held an opening ceremony for a seawater desalination plant.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Khalid AlQureshi (CEO of Saudi Water Partnership Company), Mr. Abdul Rahman Ben Zaid Al Hazani (Mayor of Al Darb City in Saudi Arabia), His Excellency Fumio Iwai (the Japanese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia), Mr. Mohammad Almurchi (CEO of Shuqaiq Three Company for Water), and others.

The plant is one of the biggest scale RO-based desalination plants in the world and started its commercial operation on January 9, 2022. Since then, the plant has been providing a stable supply of drinking water and water for domestic use to more than 2,000,000 residents in the Shuqaiq and nearby area located on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia.

By utilizing the know-how it has accumulated through activities in various countries around the world, Marubeni will continue to supply stable and safe water to areas where water resources are scarce and in high demand, which will contribute to fulfilling the social responsibilities for building a sustainable society.
