Marubeni Supply Railway Safety Equipment to Myanma Railway

On August 1 2015, Marubeni Corporation (“Marubeni”) signed a contract (*) with Myanma Railway (“MR”) of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar for installation of an operation control center system and safety equipment (Lot2) (“Project”). Marubeni will supply railway safety equipment manufactured by Kyosan Electric MFG. Co., Ltd. to MR.
This Project is covered by grant aid from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Marubeni will supply the railway safety equipment by the end of July 2016 and the equipment will be installed at Yangon Central Station and Pazundaung Station.
As modernization of existing railway facilities is required to improve safety and operation service, several railway modernization projects such as the Yangon-Mandalay Trunk Line and the Yangon Circular Line have been planned with Japanese government assistance.
Marubeni has experience in a full turnkey rail systems project in Venezuela, the Philippines, United Arab Emirates (Dubai), and Thailand, and is expanding railway related business in overseas markets.
Marubeni will contribute to safe railway operation and improvement of traffic problems in Myanmar through the provision of a reliable transportation system.
