Marubeni Corporation

Marubeni Corporation’s fully-owned subsidiary, Mibugawa Power Company (“Mibugawa”), held an opening ceremony today for three small hydro power plants that commenced commercial operation from January 15, 2016 in Hiroshima City and Kitahiroshima Town, Hiroshima Prefecture.

Mibugawa replaced the plants which it received from a local power producer who operated them for around 70 years. The expected annual power generation will cover the annual electricity consumption of 900 ordinary houses and the generated power will be sold to Marubeni to utilize its power retail business.

Mibugawa conducts stable operation of small hydro power plants on a nationwide scale by utilizing its operational know-how. There are many viable locations to construct small hydro power plants in the Chugoku region, especially in Hiroshima Prefecture. Mibugawa will therefore continuously work on the construction of small hydro power plants in the Chugoku region and contribute to the local community.

Mibugawa began operation of small hydro power plants from 2006 and this project marks the ninth, tenth and eleventh projects since then. Mibugawa will proactively work on the production of renewable energy in Japan and aims to develop around 30 small and medium-sized hydro power plants by 2020.
